We understand this is a big decision for you and your loved ones. We want to do everything possible to relieve any concerns you may have. Here are some answers to common questions families have when searching for support services.

General

How do I pay for "Just" People's services?

We accept Medicaid Waivers and Private Pay. There are scholarship opportunities available if needed.

How do you find and screen staff?

We use the DBHDD background check and fingerprinting system to qualify our employees. All staff go through an extensive 3 tier interview process and are evaluated working with our members. Once hired, each employee recieves the mandatory DBHDD training.

Many "Just" People employees have been a part of JP for over 7 years. "Just" People takes great pride in the dedication of our people!

How does transportation work?

"Just" People has over 20 vehicles an 10 drivers available to transport to and from work, appointments, errands, etc. Transportation depends on availablity and schedule requests must be submitted but JP makes every effort to provide safe and reliabe transit.

If my child works, do they have to turn over their paycheck?

Nope. Their money is their money. We work to help teach our members how to manage their funds independedntly but are also available to assist on a one to one basis. Whether its paying rent, buying groceries, saving for a trip or something special, the JP staff are here to help!

Do members have to turn over their Social Security check?

No way! We are able to be the payee if needed but we do not mandate this. We prefer for our members to have their own checking account with a family member recieving bank statements as well as the member so that we can all work together to manage budgets efficiently.

Programs

Do you have a Sports Program?

Yes! We have over 100 athletes that participate in Special Olympics. We are accredited by Special Olympics. We participate in a wide variety of sports including bowling, bocce, gymnastics and swimming. Learn more about our sports program here.

Do I have to attend the Day Program every day?

No, you can come as much or as little as your schedule allows

Do ILP members have to have a roommate?

No, we have one bedroom apartment layouts.

What kind of social activities do you offer?

What don’t we do? Our members have an extensive social life. Talent Show, Karaoke and Dancing top the list. Bingo is super popular but we also go everywhere in Atlanta and the surrounding areas- the GA Aquarium, the Zoo, the Mall, Bowling, Restaurants, Lake Lanier, Local parks, etc. We also travel once a year- typically a cruise. The JP Party animals have traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Dollywood, Disney, Universal, New York, California, Washington DC and most of the Caribbean and Mexico.

Do you have an Employment Program?

Over 80% of our members work in the community. We have a job skills class that focuses on skill building so that the members are prepared for the work force. We have 2 dedicated employment specialists who interview the members to find interests and special talents so that they can find appropriate community work settings that match the individual needs and desires. The goal is to be able to reach a point where the member is independent at work but JP is still there for job maintenance.

Intake

How long is the intake process?

There are three steps to the intake process: inital meeting, trial days and a respite stay. This process can be as short or as long as you would like.

Can I talk to parents/ family members that are currently enrolled?

Yes! We are happy to connect you with family members that are involved in our program. You will also have the opportunity to meet current members when you tour the facilities as well as during your respite stay.

Can I visit the Day Program?

Sure! Our Day Program is open Monday through Friday from 10AM-4PM. You will feel right at home and will get the opportunity to meet many of our staff and members. Please call our office at (770) 441-1188 to schedule a tour.

Can I tour the apartments?

Absolutely. Both properties are state of the art. We welcome guests and encourage tours. The apartments are our members' homes and many are very excited to show off their space. Just give us a call!

Health & Wellness

Do you have an exercise program?

Of course! We have a gym at both properties and the day program that the individuals are welcome to use once they are trained on the equipment. We also provide fun dance classes every week on each property. We also have online fitness classes available on our website and a scheduled fitness Zoom on Fridays.

Who handles doctor appointments?

Every person is different. Typically, JP handles the minor and maintenance but prefers the family member be involved in more serious appointments and major medical decisions. "Just" People encourages stability and ease of service and is happy to make recommendations but also to make accommodations for continuity of care.

Do members go to the grocery store?

Yes! Every week. We assist in planning what they need before they go to the store and help them to stay within their budget.

Who decides what the members eat?

They do with our assistance as needed. Members often join with very limited cooking or kitchen skills. JP Staff host cooking classes weekly for those interested. Cooking classes are also held at the day program Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Easy and fun recipes are also featured in every JP newsletter. Each case manager is trained to provide guidance in menu planning and grocery shopping- we evaluate the cooking skill level and assist as needed. But they decide!! We also have the option in Flowery Branch for our dinner program. Hot, nutritious meals are provided every evening at 6pm. Our SILO residents also have continental breakfast brought to them daily.

Can family members be involved?

Of course! We want family members to be involved. We encourage our family members to attend our Annual Picnic in the Spring and our Open House the 1^st Sunday in December. We ask families to assist with holidays, attend Special Olympics and we love for family members to come visit or drop in anytime to our Independent Living Program and our Day Program. Family members are also included in the annual ISP meetings and goal setting.

How often can my family member come home?

Anytime. They are your family member. As long as they want to go, they are welcome to! There are no restrictions on visits.

Do you have a family support group?

Yes, "Just" Families is our support group that was started by family members. The group meets quarterly and often has guest speakers. It's a great way to meet other family members and to have a group to share concers, provide support, etc.
